Any thoughts?
Saturday, and its Mustang time. Not sure what to do, I may start to lightly rub down the undercoat on the bumper guard then take out the brake booster to do that again as its tarnished due to the terrible weather.
Dilemma, do you paint a classic Mustang back to its original powder blue colour, or do I go for a nice classic black, maybe white? I like the idea of aqua and white interior, pics on the forum pages if you want you want to have a look. I like the idea of original colour but I also love the idea of black and chrome. The car is nowhere near ready for paint, but I can’t help thinking about it.

Have you thought of a nice deep green? (I only say that as my fiance’s mustang was green)
I have thought of all the colours I can, a nice British racing green, or a metalic type greem would be nice, you have just made matter worse now. lol

Its funny bro, how complicated things get with builds, Is this a project your keeping bro or is it just a project?
This is a project just for me, I will be keeping it, the wife bought it for me, and its also the same age as me. So it’s quite sentimental to me. The only thing that may tempt me to selling it is if I could replace it with a Shelby! like thats gonna happen. Maybe a lottery win? In that case I would keep both. 🙂
I showed my fiance your post and he said really you should keep it the original colour if it is to be a complete restoration but having said that she is your car you get to choose whatever colour you like best. Btw I just did a post on my blog showing a picture of his mustang.
Restoration should maybe go with the original colour. That said, I’d go with your gut feeling as to what will look the best. Happy restoring 🙂

Thanks for stopping by, restoration is all about going back to the state it left the factory in, that colour is a powder blue. I don’t mind the powder blue but I think a car like this should make a statement, and own the piece of road it sites in. Black would do that, white is also a common colour but not that common. decisions decisions!
I always like the idea of original, but your heart seems to be leaning toward black…and you are putting so much of ‘you’ into this. It’s more than a project. You’re rebuilding, rethinking, and reintroducing this Mustang. So maybe black IS the new original. When you finally drive it down the road, wouldn’t it be great to know that you chose the color, not someone else.
It’s tuff with mustangs because they were so heavily produced and have serviced the years. The lines on the car make it tough to rock a two tone paint job. I think the best thing to do Is go back sit down and ask yourself one question what do you want out of this build if its your personal build and a car your partial too than build it to your heart if not original paint will always apeal to the collectors and help a resell situation at the end of the day I ask myself this question before I start the build than never look back and stick to the plan
I do like the idea of original, but I will never sell this car. I am bringing it back to life for me, not to make a profit on. So in that respect your right, its just for me. I suppose I could look at it like – if they were all in a row exactly the same spec, what colour would i choose? The black still keeps comming back to me though.
I say do it up black than, If that is what your heart is telling you than I would do it up. Maybe add a tribal pin stripe on the side in a deep red going into the mustang symbol by the bottom of the car. IDK just some thoughts it would help keep that black color your own design, and could be an easy stencil to make if your not an artist.

Debbie as ever wise words. like a phoenix from the fire. Which in fact is not to far from the actual truth, the idiot who had it before me, did have a fire under the dash in the wiring loom. I though I new what I wanted, but I am struggling here.
It’s funny you mention you thought about the colour a lot. It has been a major consideration for me. I always wanted black, then I saw a white fastback, I wanted white. Then thought original, like you say light blue is not to bad. Now I’m back to black again. I am starting to doubt my own mind.
I have been in that same dalima, My camaro was originally do do brown. As much as I wanted to keep it original I just could not do that to the car. so we are now painting it blue with white trim, and tan interior. I have been thinking about this since we bought it and now the time has come to start. I am down to one mechanical problem than time to throw the paint. Good luck on your paint. I think in your case the blue is not that bad, You can modernize it by throwing a touch of pearl in the paint. Hope this helps
