Meguiar’s Water Magnet Drying Towel

Cost: £8 – £15 approx

Date of Review: 21 August 2016

The Sales Pitch from Meguiar’s:

This extra large (70cm x 55cm) microfibre drying towel absorbs three times the water of traditional terry towels and gives fast, spot-free results. Machine washable.

  • Greatly reduces drying time with no streaks or spots.
  • Saves time – holds more water and requires fewer wring-outs.

What You Get:

A single towel.

Product Description:

The towel is 70cm x 55cm rectangle of roughly 2ft. The fabric feels soft before you use it. The surface is designed like very small waffles which I assume aids in the moisture collection.

Instructions:

Wipe over the surface to absorb the moisture, turn frequently. Wring out and continue.

Application:

The cloth on first use absorbs a good amount of moisture. But when the towel is used on a couple of panels the Water Magnet is more of a cloth which pushes the water around when the towel starts to fill up. This is the same issue as microfiber towels. The towel when wet will leave behind a thin-film of water, which unless wiped over again with a drier part of the towel could leave streaks. On the picture here you can just about see the left behind film.

Removing:

I much prefer this towel to a chamois leather or a microfiber cloth any day. It also gives a good level of confidence that it will not scratch the paint like a dry chamois leather. It removed water like it says it will, but the wringing out is still a big part of the process. It works OK, but for such a good name as Meguiar’s I did expected more.

Results:

It works; not bad, better than average. If this was an unbranded towel, I would never have guessed it was Meguiar’s product. If it gets dirty the towel is machine washable which is a bonus. With the great name that Meguiar’s has in this market area, I honestly expected more.

Rating: 6 out 10

Conclusion:

I think I would have been a little bit grumpy if I had of bought this. But as the towel was a gift, I was pleased to receive it and couldn’t wait to try it out. For a free product it wasn’t bad, paying full price for it you couldn’t help but feel a bit disappointed. More of a good water sponge rather than a water magnet.

Would I recommend it? Yes, but only if it was very cheap

Would I buy it again? No
