What You Get:
There are various sizes ranging from 4oz to one gallon in size. The larger sizes will last for ever and a day for normal use.
Product Description:
To try and review a product on smell alone is more difficult than it sounds.
This is a pump-action sprayable scent in a bottle and not an aerosol can which is much better for the environment. This can be diluted with distilled water to make it go further if required. The sprayable head is the quality Chemical guys trigger system as you would expect. No leaks and no fuss.
Instructions:
Application:
Just spray in the area that you want to smell like leather.
Removing:
It’s in the air so you can’t really.
Results:
This is a strong smell if you get the undiluted liquid on your hands as I did when I decanted it to a smaller bottle to fit in the glove box. I washed my hands and it was still there a few washes later.
The scent is exquisite of really does smell of OLD worn leather and not the newer smell you would get of pristine leather. For me this older scent is a perfect result as I have a classic car.
Rating: 8 out 10
Ease of use – 10
Finish – n/a
The Chemical Guys claim to last for weeks is a little optimistic to be honest as with most air freshener smells. Once you spray it there is gorgeous smell of leather as you would expect. The smell masked anything around it like plastic or carpet etc. so that claim lived up to expectation.
Inside the car the scent started to fade after a few hours with only a faint trace a few days later. That’s why I gave the lower score. I wanted to give this scent a top mark for smell alone, but I can’t due to the the claim of;
“Specially formulated to last 5 times longer than conventional car air fresheners; the subtle scent can last for weeks.”
Note the word “can” is used.
The smell itself is what makes this product and the amount you can make from diluting it does bring the rating right up to a much more respectable score.
Conclusion:
I will definitely use it when I get in the car to drive it around. I will use it when I park up at a car show to give that traditional old school smell when you open the door. I absolutely love this smell and it’s very authentic and very convincing. I will mess around with dilution rates etc. to see if the smell lasts longer. If I hit the sweet spot for longevity I will of course amend my score and let you know how I did it.
- Perhaps somebody could give me a tip on how to make it last longer?
I sprayed this onto an old Magic Tree scent that had lost its smell and this product soaked in and then it gave off the leather scent a little more subtle than a few squirts of the trigger.
Would I recommend it? Yes. It really does smell like leather.
Would I buy it again? Yes. Make sure to get it at a good price.
