Product Description:

This is aimed at cleaning a car without the use of water, a concept that is a hot topic of debate. Can you clean a car without water, the hype says you can. The instructions says you can also use it all over the car, “painted surfaces, wheels, glass, clear plastics, textured plastic bumpers, window trim, exhaust tips, engine bay, door jams and more”.

Spray on and wipe of the dirt and leave a clean surface.

Instructions:

1. Shake well before use.
2. Spray directly onto a cool, shaded surface of your vehicle.
3. Wipe the solution in one direction with a clean microfiber towel to lift dirt and contaminants.
4. Buff dry with another microfiber towel to reveal a glossy finish
   Swift Wipe’s slickening agents provide lubrication to prevent scratching or swirling during cleaning, making it safe for delicate surfaces. It is ideal for situations where water access is limited, such as apartments or outdoor events

The missing parts of instructions (applicable for all waterless wash products) on how to use the cloth which is essential in order to not damaging your paint:

• When wiping roll the cloth in the hand to expose a clean part of the cloth as you move along the panel
• Failing to roll the cloth will create a wedge of dirt which will be pushed over the paint.
• Use a good quality cloth with lots of nap on the cloth the hold the dirt away from the paint.

Testing Environment:

The car was left to get dirty, very dirty in fact. The dirt is from the ‘sand’ in the air which settles on the paint leaving a film. When it rains or moisture in the air lands on the sand it forms the dirt circles. This will categorically damage paint if not treated with care for removing. Especially with no water to rinse or loosen the sand first. In fact snow foam would be best in this type of scenario to loosen the debris. But this was going to be a tough test.

Application:

Spray onto the panel and wipe in a single direction. Here you can see the spray was slightly over lapping. Some brands make a thing about their products which will encapsulate the dirt to protect the paint.

The spray pattern was good and even with just an occasional drip from the nozzle which always seem to be good and consistent from Chemical Guys regardless of their product.

Removing:

Roll the cloth, especially with a dirty car.

The cleaning did remove the dirt into the cloth, I used three cloths in total due to the dirt. However, after wiping the dirt away once the product had evaporated there was some heavy a streaking left behind.

After wiping half the hood you can clearly see the dirt on the cloth with the paint looking clean.

Once the whole hood had been cleaned and wiped over, catching the paint in the right light shows a very different story. Streaks and film left behind.

Where the sun was able to catch the streaks on the roof, you can clearly see the brownish residue from the sand which was left on the black paint.

The product says you need to buff to shine after cleaning. BUT, as I could see the streaking or film left behind that shouldn’t be buffed as it was still dirty in my opinion.

To remove these streaks I had to go back over the same area again with another clean cloth to with more product to clean it properly.

Results:

Not great and a lot of hard work to get there. The name of the product suggests a swift wipe would do the job in one; it didn’t and certainly wasn’t swift, at all. I used about 80% of the bottle on my Honda CRV, going over and over (and for a third time on the hood). This wasn’t cost effective and made heavy work of the process. Perhaps a less dirty car wouldn’t need as much product. But on a large pretty dirty SUV, I suspect you will use the whole bottle at £18 that ain’t good.

Putting in the work to clean and reclean, then buff to shine; yes I could get the results. Once you eventually get to this cleaned panel point the paint looked good and I didn’t see any marring or scratches even from a such heavy soiling. That’s a positive!

Alternative

I don’t do this on reviews by comparing products. BUT, in this case I wasn’t sure if the test was unfair. So I got Chemical Guys’ main and very well known competitor’s product to do a little section of the roof with the same levels of dirt. YOu can clearly see the difference.

The results were night and day. The competitor cleaned with one wipe and left no streaks. This is in fact my go to product for waterless washing.

The amount of work to get an eventual good result is horrendous, in effect I cleaned the car three times. Wiping most of the dirt off, then cleaning the residue and then buffing. The clean shouldn’t be that hard, but once you get to the clean part the results are respectable and a slick finish.

Conclusion:

I’m a fan of some of Chemical Guys products. I’m not a complete fan boy to say everything is great just because of their name. This is one of those products that is way below par and not a great product.

This was a lot of money for 16oz where you can get alternatives for a little less with with around 45% more product which works better.

To get to the clean car (eventually), in my opinion wasn’t worth the effort to get their. Shift wipe should be that, not do it a few times then you will be OK.

Was this a hard test? Yes it was. BUT other products cope with it admirably. Even Chemical Guys other Waterless Wash product is so much better, I don’t know why they cam up with this?

I had some of this product left – I dumped it in the bin, I thought it was that bad!

Would I recommend it? NO

Would I buy it again? Never
