Seeing Red

Every four years my life is made a misery so I am going to drop the “F” word – Football, there I have said it. All around the world people are going mad, they take days off work to watch football, they attach things to their cars like cheap plastic flags or vinyl stickers of their world cup team. People have football match parties, the television is infested with it, newspapers are riddled with it and the radio is full of it. So you may or may not have noticed that I don’t like football, I don’t want to see football, I don’t want to play football and I don’t want anything to do with football. Now I do appreciate that football is a passion, it’s even patriotic and this particular event thankfully only happens every four years. But, for people like me it’s horrendous, I just can’t get away from it, it does my head in. There should be a least a couple of channels on the television that are football free, not on the news, not in adverts, nowhere, nothing, zilch. My Bluray collection is getting a few re-runs that’s all I can say. Like all things, there is a silver lining to this very dark cloud that hangs over me, I can go out when football is on and I can park in a super market that is now occupied mainly by ladies getting away from the football I guess. I get funny looks as if to say, does he know the football is on? The roads are quiet, restaurants are not very busy, but the pubs are full. Before every man threatens to unfollow my blog and the ladies get the hump because I suggest they don’t like it, I just want to say; please spare a thought for the people who don’t like it. However, I wish all your football teams the best of luck. Does the fact that I am a male and I don’t like football make me weird? Come to think of it, don’t answer that!!

It’s Sunday night and I am writing up my blog, what happened to Saturday and today? Saturday I went to Mustang Maniac to do some more work on my car. Their yard has been cleaned up and looks a lot better and that was the general opinion of the few people I was talking to there as well. I can say that my car is starting to progress a little. The welding is still to be done when they get some time. In the mean time Adam told me to I could clean up the panels on one side de-grease them and get some red oxide paint on there. The trick is to stipple it on, the stuff does not want to be painted on and looks odd if you do. I have done a few bits and it looks so much better. The rear right side wheel arch has been half done as we may need to replace the outer arch but we need to get the quarter panel off to check. The painting took me ages to do and was strangely therapeutic! I could even see the red changing colour as it dried. So I really did watch red (well sort of dirty orange in fact) paint dry! Next week I suspect I will do the other side.

Sunday I went to put stuff in the man cave and it was a real mess. As it (football), was on I decided to tidy it up. Now I can get in there and even have more storage space. Well, that is until the wife puts some more gardening stuff in there!

About One man and his Mustang

I'm just a man with a Classic 1966 Ford Mustang Coupe and a collection of tools that just keeps getting bigger in order that I could do the job right. When I first started this blog this is what I wrote: "I had bought a project car, that had been neglected, set fire to, rusted and abused. As a result of that she needed a bare metal strip down, a nut and bolt restoration." Four and a half years later the car was completed, on the road and shown at the UK's premier Classic Car Show, everything that was done to that car is documented here. I now have the privilege to drive one of America's most recognised cars and a true Icon, the Ford Mustang. I'm still sane after the blood, sweat and tears, so would I do it again? Oh yes!

  2. Yes, futbol is here in the States, too…everywhere!!! But…at Greenfield Village they had a Motor Muster with zillions of vintage cars and people forced themselves to go to it while…TAPING the futbol, I’m sure!!! No game will be left unseen!!!

    • Lol, I thought I was the only one who didn’t like football or soccer as the case may be. I have people at work who tape the games as you say and watch them all back to back, even teams they don’t like. Motor Muster sounds cool though. Hope you are keeping well.

I can’t stand football either so you are not the only one. I also hate it when the TV has football saturation of the sport.

Nice to see some progress on the Mustang and apologies for not replying to the last couple of posts but they never appeared in my reader so I assumed you’d not done anything. I only found this because I clicked on your like on my post and found several of your posts I’d missed. Not sure why the reader misses posts but it has done it to many people quite often.

    • Hi, my reader also has so issues like that with posts not showing. Probably some bloggers will get a few likes all in one go. I don’t know why it does that so I have to manually check. I have been keeping an eye on your cars too, glad to see it starts better but not so good with the leak.
I thought I was the only one who doesn’t like football, glad I’m not.

Thanks, hopefully leak will be cured once I swap the gearbox and replace rear seals and gaskets at same time. I’ve never been that interested in football, I prefer motorsport generally. I guess my schooling contributed to my dislike as I went to a grammar school where the main sports were Rugby in winter and Cricket in summer. Football was looked on with disdain by the school and pupils were discouraged from playing it. There was a certain snobbery between the Rugby playing Grammar school and the football playing secondary 🙂

  4. I’m with you on futbol (soccer) and football. I don’t like either. When we lived in Spain, people went nuts over futbol and I have a nephew who lives soccer 24/7. But I just can’t see what anyone finds interesting about futbol or American football. I remember one day in dance class some of the guys were talking about football, and our teacher was looking disgusted. One guy asked our teacher if he liked football, and our teacher answered “Oh no! It’s awful! All those big men HANDLING each other. It’s disgusting!” At least they don’t handle each other very much from the little bit I’ve seen of futbol!

Looks like you are making progress on the car.

    • I’m glad that I’m not the only one who doesn’t like futbol (I like that). I’m just counting the days till it’s all over.
The car is getting there it just time and resources Adam can spare me. Each day I spend there is a day closer to being on the road.
