Lighting the way

The weekends are short and the weeks are long, some are just to long. This past week has been one of those weeks you want to forget. Lack of sleep made me a bit cranky to be fair, so obviously a lay-in was on the cards on Sunday. As we live in a sleepy little village where the front page of the village magazine would be number 57’s cat found safe and well after being missing for 5 hours. Things are usually very quiet, during the week and weekends and I expect nothing different this weekend. 8.45am Sunday morning I was awoken by the sound of electric hedge trimmers. Why this elderly gentlemen decided to do trim his hedge at this time is beyond me. The guy is retired and he could do that any time during the week when us poor workers aren’t about. Should he have been more considerate or did he just not think of others? I would not cause bad feeling about it but it would have be nice to have had the rest. I was up early Saturday as we had things to do, so Sunday was going to be my rest day, alas it was not to be. Are layin-ins a thing of the past now days?

Earlier in the week I had ordered a light, not any old light, but something I had thought about for a little while now. Working on the car in the garage was a little difficult as the light bulb was in the middle of the garage, when the hood was up there was a horrendous shadow over was in the engine bay. I decided on a site light, this is a halogen bulb on a stand that is height adjustable. The reason behind it is that I can move the light where I want it around the car and also take it out to the man cave and work in the evening. I will review the Faithfull light and put it in the review section very soon. As I was out Saturday with the wife and my mother-in-law to get some replacement ceiling cords, we were looking around and I found a cheap wall mounted halogen unit almost as cheap as a the replacement bulb, needless to say I bought that and put it up today. Now I have a nice spot light straight into the engine bay. I have gone from a single 60w bulb to two lots of 500w lights. I’m not saying they are bright but Boeing have made a couple of detours from the normal flight path towards our house, not really but I wouldn’t be surprised. In fact I may get some lower wattage bulbs. Due to such a mental busy weekend I haven’t done half of what I wanted to do. But I have managed to put a final coat on the brake drums with VHT caliper satin black. I will review the spray soon too as it gave great results. I have taken photos and a video, which one I post I’m not sure yet.

5th March 2013 update:

I have now added the review of the Faithfull 500w Halogen light in the review section or click here for a direct link.

Brake Booster Removal & Charity

Well that’s Monday over with, and now sitting here wondering where the weekend went and will I make it through the week? Yeah, it was a manic and frustrating weekend but I did get lots done. The brake booster is off and so is the wheel. I have posted pics of the booster under the photos section – engine bay, or click here for the fast link.

The next task is to treat the booster and get it back in.

Charity

On another note, I would like to say well done to Will who gave up drinking beer for the whole of January for charity, that’s a great achievement. Your money is waiting for you at your garage. Oh, don’t forget to drink the next few beers slowly. 🙂

A little while ago I had an idea about my car. Once I get my Mustang back on the road I was thinking of taking it to a children’s hospice and take the children for a ride around the block as it were, they would be able to wave to their friends as it growls down the road. Hopefully they would enjoy it and give them something to talk about and remember. I bet the dads would enjoy it and want a ride too. Lol. But, will I be allowed to do it or not remains to be seen with our child protection laws as they are. What a sad world we live in if you can’t even do that now days.

Pond life…

Lets just say I am a little hacked off. Why?

It’s simple, a few days ago I started a sister blog on Tumblr, I posted a little while ago the link to it. That blog has now been deleted. The fact that some loser with an IQ the same as his shoe size posted garbage on it, has not installed any faith in that blog. Perhaps I should have waited. But, it was gonna happen it would be my blog. I trust that the said individual doesn’t damage their laptop by spilling their baby formula milk all over it, obviously the baby milk is there to help them grow up. Perhaps the laws of evolution hasn’t filtered down to that part of the pond life! Sorry to mess you all about, but I was trying to help the request I had to post on Tumblr. Next time I must research more.

Enough of me moaning about the single-celled plankton that seems to have mastered a keyboard, tomorrow is Friday, that means I need to think about tasks for the car over the weekend. Brake booster out or start on the front valance? Difficult choices, maybe I will get that pesky slow puncture off.

Now I have calmed down a bit its off to bed!

Snug in the garage

The weather has taken a mental turn for the worst.

I tried to get a train this morning and nothing running, so I came home and worked from there. Before I done that I had to check on my car to make everything was OK. I opened the garage and I swear I saw her shivering in the cold, to be exact that was -9deg C, to be fair it was more like teeth chattering, sorry, crashing together rapidly that gave the illusion of everything moving. That temperature is mental cold for round here, and I can’t remember the last time it was this cold. I am a little worried, in my shed there are two chrome bumpers I got for Christmas and I don’t want them ruined due to the freezing temperatures. To help with that, I ordered some hooks for bikes to be mounted on the wall but I will use them to store the bumpers on. Looks like the bumpers will be a bit big for them though, as they are only going to be on there temporally, I will tie them to make sure they don’t come off. This weekend I will put the hooks up as a number one priority. While I was in the garage I checked the fluid leaks under the car, nothing so far. Brilliant, but as its so cold everything could have shrunk and there is no gaps to leak from. Fingers crossed and I will double check the weekend. We are expecting blizzards this weekend and 10 inches of snow so I have been told. Will it be that heavy? Only time will tell if I will be able to open the garage door or not. I can’t begin to tell you how pleased I am that she is tucked away in the garage before this lot hit us and ground the country to stand still.

I have also added my review of the Draper 5 piece circlip pliers. You can find them under the tool review button, or click here to go straight there.

Redesign of website!

Blog improvements?

Before you panic and say “he’s broke it” I haven’t.

On the right hand side there were menus that were getting longer and they looked a little messy. I still had people ask me where the photo’s were!

So, I decided to split things up a little for the better, at the top under the header there are now, 7 buttons; Home, Forums and Discussions, Best Mustang Ever, Photos, Tool Reviews, Part Review & Consumable Reviews. If you click on them they take you to the places or the will drop down into menus and subsections. This means everything of importance is at the top now, so no excuse to not find anything. The book reviews I have still left on the right, there are now menus that tell you what is coming soon for each section.

I hope it now works better for you and more natural to look at. The site has got bigger than I expected a lot faster too. I have added a Tags section, click on the words and should show the posts that mention it, or just do a plain ol’ search.

Please let me know what you think, leave it or change it back – I hope not anyway 🙁

Cars

At the weekend I hope to do a little work with Bumper Stone Guard and see how it goes. I intended to take some photos for the review of the Dinitrol filler as well, two birds with one stone and all that! Still not decided on the final colour of the car and the interior colours, I have added forum here or go to all the forum sections and let me know what you think on a number of subjects. .

Bumper Stone Guard

I have been out all day, OK, I was out till it started to get dark.

I was working on the Bumper Stone Guard from the front of the car, This bit of work need to be in two very distinct parts; the inside rust protection and then the outside cosmetics. For Part 1 I had rubbed it down, treated it and put the first coat of POR15 on it. All seems to have gone well and I am please with the results today. The metal was in great condition when I got down to it under all the dirt and grime. I will apply the second coat tomorrow ready for me to do a bit of work on it next weekend on the outside. I have called it (yep you guessed it) Stone Bumper Guard (part 1) the photo’s and process for what I did is under photos, or click here.

I have added an RSS feed if you dont want to keep visisting the site, that way you never miss a post and can visit when you can. I have been asked to put quick links at the top in the “home” bar. consider it done!

Hope your having a good weekend and got everything in place ready for the holidays!
